Professor Falk Schreiber
Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg
Falk Schreiber graduated (1997), obtained a PhD (2001) and a habilitation (2006) in Computer Science from the University of Passau (Germany). In 2001 - 2002 he worked as a Research Fellow and Lecturer at the University of Sydney (Australia). Since 2003, he has been head of a bioinformatics research group at the IPK Gatersleben (Germany). In 2007 he was appointed professor of Bioinformatics at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (Germany) and additionally Bioinformatics coordinator at the IPK Gatersleben. He is an adjunct professor at Monash University Melbourne (Australia). Falk Schreiber is researching topics in Bioinformatics and Computational Systems Biology since more than 15 years. His main interests are visual computing and visual analytics of biological data, analysis of structure and dynamics of biological networks, integrative data analysis, standards for systems biology, as well as modelling and simulation of metabolism.
Modelling and visualising biological systems
Two topics will be discussed in this tutorial: (1) constraint-based modelling of metabolic systems using Flux Balance Analysis (FBA) and (2) standardised visual representation of cellular processes and biological networks using the Systems Biology Graphical Notation (SBGN).
